The Amazing Spacefrogs

Orignial 1977 Punksters famous for the Dirty Habit's EP, Which achieved number 15 in the most collectable punk singles in Record Collector mag.

1977 was the year, the Queens Silver Jubilee year (is she still alive?), this was the birth of what was then " The Amazing Spacefrogs", their first gig at The Wellington (Middlesbrough) was eventful, homegrown first generation punk in a starved world…. the Spacefrogs were seminal in the North East punk movement.
The infamous Middlesbrough Rock Garden (now the Arena) was their "support stomping ground", the upstaging of established acts started with none other than The Cure, and with fantastic local support frightened off major acts including the Angelic Upstarts, The Rezillos , and The Fall.

1979 sees the release of the "Dirty Habit" EP featuring the songs "Norman and Jeremy", "Nuns of Destruction" and the legendary "Necrophilia" The EP ended up being banned by the BBC after appearing on John Peels show (God knows why!). Five Hundred copies in 3 weeks - not bad for a first release, now a sought after EP among collectors worth in excess of £250 for a good copy.

Continuing their reputation as one of the Northeast’s premier live bands. The band have appeared on the front cover of countless magazines and fanzines and are now venturing out to new areas spreading the Frog gospel to all and sundry with the band having a repertoire list of over 40 songs they can cover all bases live, whether it be two sets pub club/show or striped down full on high energy original material set. |

Frankie is a British singer – songwriter, born in St. Albans, now residing in South London. Having grown up surrounded by a healthy variety of wonderful music, and a large musically minded family, who were encouraged to get involved from a young age (which predominantly meant singing in the church choir) Frankie inevitably has inherent musical tendencies!

Writing and performing songs has been a long-standing ambition, though only recently is it coming into fruition. Frankie’s writing is best described as poetry with music, as apposed to a more conventional ‘song writing’ format. Frankie finds enjoyment in a wide range of music, and therefore her influences stretch far! From the likes of ‘Thomas Wesley Stern’, to ‘Arvo Part’, with a whole lot else in between! The writing itself is very personal – a tool for deciphering, and an attempt at understanding life experiences. A self-taught guitar player, her technical approach is like that of a pianist. Chords are not ‘strummed’, but pulled apart and picked. A love of harmony with both voice and guitar ensures a song is not complete without either instrument. Keep in touch on face book for updates on performance and the release of a soon-coming debut recording – ‘Running Stitch’.

His third album One Moment to Fly, continues to generate airplay across North America, Europe and abroad. Make Me Want You and Je Veux both topped the charts in club circuits and on internet radio stations.Lending themselves very well to sound tracks and television, several of Thomas’ songs have been featured on TV programs. The track, I Like It, also from One Moment to Fly, was featured on the syndicated TV series, Highlander. To date, his tracks are featured on eight dance compilation CDs released in North America.

The Anomalies

Sam Meehan and Antony Murphy hail from Hereford and are the song-writers behind the indie/breaks/hip hop fusing band The Anomalies. Their debut album “Free Soup Social” was released on Beyond Music and the band really have to be seen live! Their singles “Old Skool” and “Kid Riot” had support from BBC Radio 1 and 6Music.

Electronic Circus

Electronic Circus eleased their first single in about 1982. In the words of Paul “It was a spectacular flop”. A year or two ago it went viral on YouTube after someone put it with some footage from a Bergman film - in fact, it got so big that the Bergman estate made YouTube take it down. That track, Direct Lines, has just been re-released on green vinyl(!) on Seattle label Medical Records. They decided to release a follow up single last year called Roundabout, which was really Europoppy and did quite well in some of the more obscure Electronic Music charts. There’s now an album coming out in the next couple of months. Radio Pure Gently will be proudly showcasing some of the tracks.

Electronic Circus are:

Chris Payne, stalwart member of Gary Numan's Tubeway Army, Dramatis, Dead or Alive etc. Co-wrote Fade to Grey by Visage

Mike Stewart, brilliant keys player and 'modern classical' composer extraordinaire

Frankie Day, sixteen years old and already a seasoned performer with a great voice.

Frankie's only just joined the band – they say they advertised for months for a singer and were so lucky to find her. She features on the Christmas single.

Paul Johnson Rogers – drums, vocals (almost by default until Frankie joined)

They are releasing a 2013 Christmas Single in December called - 'On Christmas Eve' featuring and introducing the wonderful voice of Frankie Day!

Sarah DeWarren

The bright lights of stardom are the prerogative of young girls everywhere, and Sarah de Warren was no exception, honing her skills on the streets of hometown Dorset to perform covers by the age of 13. However, it wasn't until she started writing and recording her own material a year later that her interest in the technical side of music production developed, inspiring her to study maths and physics as well as music- something she hopes to continue at university, with a degree in Audio Acoustics.
Now, quoting influences that range from Jeff Buckley and Beth Rowley to the XX, the result of de Warren’s ensuing three years of music production is an impressive Myspace back catalogue of haunting melodies overlaid with emotionally fraught and emotive lyrics that hint of an insight and intelligence that transcend her 18 years and have already garnered her some serious acclaim and accolade, winning her positions in Live and Unsigned 2012's grand finals at the 02 Arena, as well as recognition for her songwriting: UK Song writing Contest semifinalist two years running and the 'Best Original Song' award at the Live and Unsigned Area finals.
It's a promising start for the indie pop ingénue who seems poised to join the ranks of well established female singer songwriters who are currently reigning over the indie charts.
With her name locked in festival line ups over the summer, you will have easy access to Sarah de Warren over the coming months, but until then, you can find her on her Myspace and Facebook pages. | |
