Rock Legend Lou Reed Passes Away

It is with great sadness to learn that the rock legend Lou Reed has died at the age of 71.

As the lead singer and songwriter of the Velvet Underground in the 1960s, Lou Reed helped invent punk rock and while writing about femme fatales, black angels and heroin. In the process, he also brought a stormy dissonance to the foreground, helping to expand the vocabulary of the electric guitar. For the next 40 years, during periods both inspired and hollow, Reed tried his hand all sorts of artsy and evocative music. He loved to mess with his persona (his first big commercial splash came in the guise of glam rock) and in the process he's explored all sorts of unexpected tangents. (Source: Rolling Stone)

Dark Backward

Originally formed in 2000 by core members Max Nye and Eric Purtle, Dayton Ohio's Dark Backward began primarily as a studio-based art-damage collective. However, 2008 saw the band morph into a more traditional, live-based "rock" outfit while retaining its original anything-goes ethos; their general mission statement as amorphous as the 1991 cult film after which they were named. Nye and Purtle both labored in seminal Dayton new-wave act Dementia Precox; additionally, Purtle up until recently worked the Midwest punk circuit with Luxury Pushers. Jeff Brelsford and Jim Ingram toiled notably with Mondolux and Colonel Bleep respectively, among many others. Simply stated, DB's members' combined rock-years total is a staggering number... Guy Capo’s 2005 skin feature “Sex, Drugs and Rock N Roll” brought Dark Backward an AVN award nod for best soundtrack; the film also showcased Max in a substantial (albiet non-f*cking) role. Our next full-length album is due in early Summer of 2012. Expect the loudest.

Motel Beds

Motel Beds is a rock band from Dayton, Ohio.

They have been together in various permutations since the proto-blog days of 2003, when their first EP "Hasta Mañana" garnered positive feedback. A track from this EP, Laugh Until You Die, was included on the first volume of the popular series "The Artist’s Den."

Time passed, as it must. In 2007, the band solidified their line-up in 2007 and managed to write and record three albums between 2009-2010: "Go For a Dive," "Moondazed," and their first full-length, "Feelings."

Like men possessed, they have soldiered on, writing and recorded at an astounding rate and, in March 2011, released their critically acclaimed album, "Sunfried Dreams."

The band is now pleased to announce the release of their second LP of the year, "Tango Boys," on Chapel Hill, NC’s No More Fake Labels. The band was also warmly received at the 2011 CMJ Festival, and had its music hand-picked to appear on the 2011 CMJ Freeplay mixtape.

Momentum continues to build with a track from "Tango Boys," Tropics of the Sand (featuring vocals by Kelley Deal of The Breeders) already playing on Sirius XM Radio. In 2012, the band plans more touring, more recording and playing the No More Fake Labels showcase at the South by Southwest festival.

Le Chat et la Fille

Le Chat et la Fille are an electro pop band from Argentina, South America.

United by their passion for music, Ignacio Balbuena, DJ and remixer of indie bands like Michael Mike, Glaciares, Utopians and Catnapp and Rafaela Correa Marjak, singer, decided to join on a musical project of electronic indie dance with french lyrics, an allusion to the singer’s origins.

The members reflect their interest in films and the avant-garde of both the late 70s/early 80s and contemporary electronica, creating sounds that remind us both the vintage italo of Divine or LCD Soundsystem’s dance punk, a sound always oriented to the dance floor, with lyrics that reflect their lives, and the music and films they enjoy.
